As you already know, due to the government shutdown, SNAP benefits will not be issued on November 1st. Rhode Island has 138,046 individuals receiving SNAP benefits. Of those 7,290 are Washington County residents and 529 are Narragansett residents. In coordination with the State of Rhode Island and other municipalities throughout the state, we will be holding a community food drive. The Town of Narragansett will be collecting donations at the Community Center, 53 Mumford Road, Narragansett Mondays - Fridays from 8:30AM to 4:30PM. All donations will then be transported to URI to be distributed to food banks and residents throughout the state.
Finally, please note that the Community Center is just a drop off location. If someone needs assistance, please reach out to the Jonnycake Center, St. Peter’s Food Pantry, RICAN, Tri-County Community Action, RI Food Bank, and other local social services.
