[ARCHIVED] Streets Improvement Program :

Town of Narragansett Organizes Open House on Streets Improvement Program and Seeks Citizens to Serve on Steering Committee

WHAT: Last year the Town of Narragansett surveyed residents regarding town services. While residents generally gave the town high marks for a variety of services, the town’s streets received the lowest rating with 51% of residents dissatisfied with the condition of the streets. In the survey, residents also ranked streets as a top priority for the town just after Police and Fire services.

Last summer the Town Council awarded a contract to the Beta Group, a firm with expertise in pavement management, to assist the town in inspecting, evaluating, and rating the town streets. As part of the project, Beta Group has assigned scores and identified the maintenance requirements for each street. The maintenance requirements range from reconstruction of streets that have failed to a number of inexpensive options for streets that are in good condition.

Residents are encouraged to attend an open house to learn more about the streets improvement program and about the next steps. Residents may also serve on a committee to review the issues and report back to the Town Council with specific recommendations to address the town’s streets’ needs and the possibility of a street bond for improving a number of town streets.

Additional information about the open house and the streets improvement program will be posted to the town website at www.narragansettri.gov. Citizens are encouraged to attend the open house to provide feedback and participate in the process by serving on a steering committee.
