EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY
EARLY VOTING and TOWN HALL OPERATIONS
TOWN HALL OPERATIONS
Effective Monday 11/02/2020, Narragansett Town Hall will temporarily go back to operating by appointment only, with the exception of voters. Visitors with appointments and voters will continue to be screened upon entry. We encourage the public to use the drop box at Town Hall, utilize phone calls and e-mails to communicate with staff, and use electronic means to make payments, etc. This may help keep us healthy, ease some staff and public anxiety and allow government to continue efficient operations.
There are several reasons supporting this decision:
- Early Voting has resulted in increased foot traffic and congregating in the halls. We are all happy with the great turnout for Early Voting but it needs to be safer for Town staff and the public.
- The Town Hall has recently experienced cases and some staff are quarantined.
- The Town continues to see a significant spike in COVID -19 cases over the last two (2) months. Many of those cases connected to URI and other colleges/university students/staff residing in Town. (79% of cases from 08/30/20 through 10/24/20)
- We know the importance of proper disinfecting and cleaning and we continue to perform this task and hired a commercial disinfecting / cleaning company of Friday October 30, 2020.
EARLY VOTING
Effective Monday November 2, 2020, our Greeters will limit voters lining up in the building to seven (7) and the rest wait outside, not congregating in the lobby. When the line reaches the seven (7) limit, we will allow one (1) in for each one (1) that exits. However, in every instance, disabled persons will go to the front of the line. Early voting ends at 4:00 PM Monday November 2, 2020. Unregistered voters can vote for the Presidential / Vice Presidential candidates ONLY on Tuesday at Town Hall and register at that time.
This directive is subject to change as additional information becomes available.
Thanking you in advance for your cooperation. Stay well.
