Do you Geek the Library? - You may be wondering, "Just what does that mean?" Funny you should ask! By definition the word, "Geek" refers to a person who really has enthusiasm for a special subject or activity. Patrons who know me, should not be surprised to hear me say that "I Geek Pets." My Facebook page, photo albums and camera contain numerous pictures of all different types of pets that I have adopted. Over time my pets have included Dexter & Jibber the ferrets; Chloe, Abbey and Penny the dogs, not to mention the cats, gerbils, guinea pigs and even chinchillas that I have owned.
Now that you have a better understanding of what the expression "I Geek the Library" means ... and it is a good thing you do! You may be seeing this slogan popping up across the whole state, as RI kicks off a community awareness program for public libraries! I doubt that when this campaign draws to a close everyone will be using the word "geek" freely, but hopefully you will be able to truly agree that libraries are worth "geeking!"
Join us in celebrating National Library Card month by entering our Geek the Library drawing by filling out an entry form that let's us know just what you GEEK? By the end of September all entries will be included for a drawing to give away a Geek the Library basket (on display in the library). Requirements to enter - SHOW US YOUR LIBRARY CARD! If you don't already have one ... it's easy to apply.
