[ARCHIVED] Hurricane Sandy Press Release - Narragansett PD

PRESS RELEASE - October 30, 2011
Narragansett Police Department
Captain William McGovern

Hurricane Sandy Damage Update
The Town of Narragansett has had wide spread power outages. There are downed utility lines, utility poles and trees.

The seawall and area along Ocean Rd. will remain closed until the road is cleared and the seawall and sidewalks are inspected by the RI Department of Transportation. A section of the concrete wall was forced out of place by waves approximately 100 yards north of South Pier Road. There are also missing manhole covers and a section of storm drains that have been lost in the storm surge.

The Coast Guard House Restaurant was heavily damaged during the storm including heavy flooding of the first floor area. Debris has been left all over the roadway under the Towers and in the front of the Coast Guard House Restaurant which must be removed before the area is safe for anybody to enter. Narragansett PD is asking people to stay away from this entire area until the work has been completed.

Debris on Beach Street and Boston Neck Road will also need to be cleaned and we are reminding the public that the parking ban for the town center is still in effect until the storm damage is cleared from all streets and the utility work is near completion.

The following roads are closed at this time:
Ocean Road will remain closed from Earles Ct. to Beach St., including all side streets east of Boon St.
Beach Street
Boston Neck Road from Beach St. north to the Dunes Club
Foddering Farm Rd.
Bonnet Point Rd. at the Causeway
Sections of Col. John Gardner Rd.
Middlebridge Rd. from Old Boston Neck to Middlebridge with no access over the bridge.
