Dogs on the Narragansett Town Beach

Sec. 82-25. - Dogs.

It shall be unlawful for the owner, a person in charge of a dog, or any other person to permit a dog, whether leashed, under control, wandering loose or otherwise, to be on the beach belonging to the town at any time between May 15 and September 15 in any year. Between the months of September 15 to May 15, dogs shall only be permitted on the town beach when they are either leashed or under the control of the owner or person having charge of such dogs. Any person violating the provisions of this section shall be deemed to be guilty of an offense.

Sec. 6-2. - Animal waste.

(a) Removal and disposal required. Any person having control of an animal which defecates in or upon any sidewalk, roadway, public place, park, the town beach, or any building or any part of a building used by or open to the public shall forthwith remove and dispose of the feces.

(b) Exemption. This section shall not apply to a licensed dog accompanying any handicapped person who by reason of his handicap is physically unable to comply with the requirements of this section.

(c) Penalty for violation of subsection (a) of this section. Any person who shall violate subsection (a) of this section shall be guilty of an offense and shall be punished by a fine not to exceed $25.00 for the first offense, $50.00 for the second offense within a year and $75.00 for the third offense within a year and all subsequent offenses.
