HDC Tip of the Month

Tip of the Month: Too much salt, not only bad for your diet....
Oversalting your masonry surfaces such as walkways, patios, etc. as a method to remove ice can result in serious damage to their surfaces.  Never apply salt to any masonry installation less than a year old and always minimize applications to old surfaces. Remember, it’s the refreeze and thaw action that essentially frost heaves and creates spaulded surfaces.  Physically remove as much of the snow and ice that you can with your broom or shovel.  Use a minimal amount of the ice melt products available and sweep some of the moisture away as it develops.
